We’re often asked to create a “quick” infographic as part of a larger project—whether it be for a website, a handbook, or a brochure.  The desire is to have something visually appealing that breaks up the text and conveys a good amount of information in a simplistic and easily digestible way.  Piece of cake, right?

Not exactly.  There’s a common misperception that because an infographic is an easy way to convey information, that it’s a simple task to create.  The reality is just the opposite.  Distilling large amounts of data or meaty concepts into something clear, engaging, and authentic is a strategic undertaking, not an afterthought.  It’s not about using SmartArt or cookie cutter templates to get the job done—that’s an infauxgraphic at best, making your content fit the graphic and not the other way around.
