Background
The Justice and Belonging (JxB) initiative at the Weitzman School grew from a multi-year effort to strengthen equity, culture, and community within the school. As the initiative began to take shape through programming, conversations, and new communication channels, it needed a visual identity that could represent its work across events, publications, and digital platforms. The identity needed to connect to the Weitzman brand while standing on its own as a recognizable initiative.
Challenge
Translate a conceptual and symbolic idea into a clear, flexible identity.
Solution
A logo inspired by light, reflection, and the intersection of justice and belonging.
Results
A distinct visual mark that supports communications across platforms.

The Objective
Create a recognizable identity for an evolving initiative
The goal was to develop a symbol that could represent an initiative focused on justice, belonging, and cultural change within an academic setting. The identity needed to feel meaningful and forward-looking while remaining simple enough to work across print, digital, and audio platforms.

Design Solution
A mark inspired by reflection and convergence
The logo concept grew from the idea of light refracting across a CD surface, creating an “X” formed by rainbow diffraction. This intersection became a symbol of convergence, momentum, and connection between Justice and Belonging. The “J” and “B” anchor the mark while the intersecting forms reference motion, sound, and progress. The final identity connects visually to the Weitzman color palette while providing a distinctive symbol for JxB.

Challenges & Accommodations
Interpreting an abstract vision
The initial inspiration was highly conceptual and symbolic. The challenge was translating that idea into a mark that felt clear, meaningful, and practical for everyday use.

Outcomes
A clear identity for dynamic application in ongoing communications
The Justice and Belonging mark now provides a distinct visual anchor across events, publications, and communications, helping JxB present its work consistently and build recognition within the school community.
