Background

Reimagining a digital home for intergenerational leadership.

Started in 1996 by Michael D. Eisner, then-Chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company, and his wife Jane in order to focus their family’s philanthropic activities, The Eisner Foundation is the only U.S. foundation dedicated exclusively to advancing intergenerational solutions, bringing older and younger generations together to strengthen communities. Through its grantmaking, fellowships, and advocacy, the foundation has become a leading voice in the field.

However, its existing website had grown increasingly difficult to navigate over time. Content had accumulated without clear organization, making it harder for grantseekers, practitioners, and researchers to access the foundation’s insights and resources. The organization partnered with us to redesign the site and develop updated messaging that would better communicate its leadership in the intergenerational space while improving usability for multiple audiences.

Challenges & Accommodations
Balancing authority, accessibility, and depth of content

The site needed to communicate expertise and leadership without feeling dense or difficult to navigate, while accommodating a wide range of content, from research and resources to funded initiatives, without overwhelming users.

An additional consideration was how to work with the foundation’s existing visual identity. The handprint logo introduces a more playful, human element, but the overall experience needed to convey credibility and seriousness appropriate for a leading philanthropic organization. The challenge was creating a design that felt grounded and authoritative without losing the warmth embedded in the brand. At the same time, the visual approach needed to remain engaging without relying on overly stylized or trend-driven design, ensuring the experience feels accessible, credible, and enduring.

Outcomes
A clearer platform for sharing ideas, resources, and impact

The redesigned site provides a stronger foundation for communicating the organization’s mission and the broader importance of intergenerational work. Visitors can more easily understand the concept, explore funded programs, and access resources that demonstrate the foundation’s expertise. The result is a streamlined digital presence that supports multiple audiences while reinforcing the foundation’s role as a leader in the intergenerational field.
